Hackney UNISON
AT HACKNEY UNISON Annual General Meeting, members were angry at the national leadership's handling of the pensions dispute.
Members wanted this anger expressed at the special local government conference on pensions on 6 March.
Three motions proposed by Socialist Party members were all carried. One was for stricter guidelines for industrial action for paid union officials, the other to make national and regional officials more accountable by being elected.
One member said that rather than being elected every five years as the motion stated, it should be every year, because less damage could be done! Another member added that we should also include they should be on the same terms and conditions and pensions as us. Finally members voted overwhelmingly for the third motion, which was in support of the Sri Lanka Solidarity Appeal.
Socialist Party member Brian Debus was re-elected chair of the branch.
