Greenwich single status scandal

OVER 600 Greenwich UNISON members attended a mass meeting on 14 March, following the council's latest proposals to attack pay and conditions under the guise of 'single status'.

The proposals will, if allowed to go unchallenged, lead to cuts in pay of up to £130 per week for some staff. The council are seeking to win staff over by launching a PR exercise which hides the true effect of these proposals.

We even had the grotesque spectacle of a chief executive, who awarded herself a £20,000 pay rise last year, writing to all workers at home, selling the proposals and asking workers to be flexible.

The meeting unanimously agreed a resolution from Socialist Party members and Greenwich UNISON branch secretary Onay Kasab, which called for a rejection of the proposals and a campaign of action to defend Greenwich council workers.

The meeting agreed to call for mass lobbies of council meetings, beginning next week.
