Rail pension dispute

178 train drivers working for London Midland and based at Bletchley are to strike on 28 and 29 February in a dispute about pension payments. The issue is that pension provisions were not enhanced in line with pay rises as they should have been.

Drivers nearest to retirement stand to lose £2,700 per year from the pension they were expecting and £4,700 from their lump sum.

The drivers have paid in what they should have paid but the employer hasn't. London Midland decline to pay up, hence the dispute.

There is likely to be strong support for these Aslef members from other trade unionists on the railway as this will be seen as the thin end of the wedge in relation to pensions across the industry.
