Bush eying regime change in Iran

ACCORDING TO US journalist Seymour Hersh the Pentagon is accelerating military plans to attack Iranian nuclear facilities with 'bunker-busting' bombs, including the use of 'tactical nuclear weapons'.

The Bush administration has dismissed the story. Nonetheless, it has not ruled out a military attack if negotiations with Iran over its refusal to halt its nuclear work fails.

Hersh told the BBC that the US and its allies considered Iran was between two and ten years away from possessing an operational nuclear bomb and that planning for military action by the US had moved from contingency planning to direct operational planning.

Many suspect that Bush's intention is regime change in Iran; on his recent visit to India he announced a deal under which India - an ally which has not signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty - will get the latest technology from the US. India will be free to use fissile material from eight non-inspected nuclear reactor sites to produce nuclear warheads.
