A socialist weekend in Sheffield
IT STARTED on Friday morning with our paper sale outside Moorfoot civil services offices. Bobbie Cranney and me sold ten copies of the socialist. It was Bobbie's first Moorfoot sale and her enthusiasm for approaching workers certainly helped!

Public and Commercial Services union members were leafleting for Monday's Department For Education and Skills (DFES) strike ballot.
They also bought copies of the paper and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) worker and Socialist Party member Bill Murray donated £10 to the fighting fund.
Saturday's activities started at 10.30am at Manor Top in Arbourthorne ward where we're standing in the council elections.
Our stall was yards away from a Labour stall.
While, Alistair Tice, John Radcliffe and myself got a big response thanks to people's anger at getting poorer services for increasing council tax, Labour were just handing out balloons to children (get 'em when they're young!).
We sold 16 papers and many people promised to vote Socialist.
At 12.30 Neil Harris, John and me started our ISR stall. A lot of young people shop and hang out around Devonshire Green and we campaigned against the racist BNP.
We sold ten more papers as John and Neil approached people with leaflets and petitions. Many people said they'd go to the Youth Against Racism in Europe (YRE) benefit gig at The Grapes on 25 May to help raise awareness that the BNP can't improve jobs and services.
Let's hope it's "same again" if not "even better" next week!
