Out Of Touch!

Build The Socialist Alternative

MORE OUT of touch and more inflexible than Margaret Thatcher. That's the verdict of the majority of people in this country about Tony Blair.

Blair and Iraq - Cartoon by Alan Hardman from Cover of Socialism TodayVoters are abandoning New Labour in their millions. And no wonder. 71% of the population want the troops withdrawn from Iraq. But as usual, Blair isn't listening. 15,000 civilians have been slaughtered, over a thousand occupying troops killed, hostages are being kidnapped and beheaded and Blair's friends, Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi, say they are pleased with the progress in Iraq!

In his conference speech, Blair said that he was on a "mission" to create a Britain "for the many and not the few". But after seven years in power, the gap between rich and poor under New Labour has widened.

Blair talked about investing in public services at the same time as he is axing the jobs of over 100,000 civil servants. How will sacking workers who help the unemployed get jobs and poor pensioners and children get the extra payments they need, benefit the many?

The overwhelming majority of voters support nationalisation of the railways. Even New Labour's own conference voted in favour of this. But what does Blair care? His "mission" is to privatise everything, welcoming big business to make a profit out of health, education and other public services.

He says he wants "a fair deal at work". Tell that to the Jaguar workers in Coventry who are being thrown on the scrapheap by multinational profiteer Ford.

Working-class people need to set their own mission, one that's possible and necessary - to build a new workers' party that can provide a socialist alternative to Blair, New Labour and the profit system that's wrecking our lives.
