PCS pay ballot begins

270,000 PCS members will soon be voting in a ballot for a national civil service-wide one-day strike over pay. Action planned also includes a rolling programme of targeted strike and other action after the first strike, probably in November. PCS is also planning to co-ordinate with other unions taking action then, such as the NUT.

The ballot goes on until 17 October.

UCU members in further education are considering balloting for industrial action after being offered a 3.2% pay rise from 1 October. The union's further education committee are recommending an industrial action ballot at a special conference on 20 September. The action would be co-ordinated with the NUT and "any other unions fighting the government's pay freeze".

Unison members in further education have accepted the offer.
