Come to Socialism 2009

Socialism 2009

Socialism 2009

Are you sick of low pay and long hours? Angry at cuts, closures and privatisation?

Had enough of poverty across the globe? Want an end to war and occupation? It becomes clear to more of us every day that the solutions to these problems won't be found under the current system.

If you're looking for ideas to change the world then join the fight back and come to Socialism 2009. 2008 will go down in history as 'the year the world changed' - the world economy was plunged into crisis and recession by the avarice of the bosses and the contradictions of this system.

There are no 'rescue packages' for workers facing redundancy but rich, greedy money men are given huge handouts. The situation is crying out for a socialist alternative to the dead-end politics of the bosses' parties.

But 2009 is the year the fight-back starts! Already this year, we've seen momentous strike action taken and struggles begin to emerge. Through these, a growing number of workers and young people are looking for an alternative to the chaos and misery that this system offers. Capitalism is how the planet is organised at the moment, but its not the only way to run things.

There is enough wealth and resources on the planet to provide a secure, decent standard of living for everyone.

But under capitalism this will never be achieved.

What's needed is a fundamental change in the way society is organised.

We need to fight for socialist change so resources can be planned democratically to meet the needs of humanity.

If you agree, don't just sit on the fence. Make attending Socialism 2009 your first step in joining the fight for a socialist world!

WHAT IS SOCIALISM 2009?

Socialism 2009 is a weekend of political discussion and debate hosted by the Socialist Party. It offers an important opportunity for socialists, trade unionists, workers and young people to come together and share experiences of fighting back.

It also gives us the chance to look back on the struggles of the past, draw lessons from them and arm ourselves for the battles we face today and tomorrow.

The highlight of Socialism 2009 will be a rally of well over a thousand on the Saturday evening at the Euston Friends Meeting House addressed by fighting trade union leaders, international activists and workers in struggle.

Sessions at Socialism 2009 will include:

How can workers fight back in the recession?
