October 2009 marks the eighth anniversary of troops being sent to Afghanistan. It is clearer than ever that the invasion has resulted in a nightmare for the people of Afghanistan and the region and those sent to fight.

Everything the US and UK governments have promised; to destroy al-Qaeda, make the west safe, bring democracy, fight against corruption, promote women's rights and stamp out opium production, has not been delivered by the occupation.

While some military generals propose raising troop levels, ordinary people demand the withdrawal of the troops.
