Every penny counts: donate to Socialism 2014
Ken Douglas, Socialist Party national treasurer
Please make a donation to the Socialism 2014 appeal to support the work of the Socialist Party and the Committee for a Workers' International.
This year could see a record number of people attending our annual Socialism event on the weekend of 8 and 9 November. This would reflect an upsurge in interest in socialist ideas and building an alternative to austerity.
No other event has such a rich choice of sessions to attend, or such an inspiring line-up of speakers. We will discuss the fundamentals of Marxism, workers' struggles throughout history and ideas that can change society today.
Karl Marx famously wrote that philosophers had hitherto only interpreted the world, but that the point is to change it. This will run like a red thread throughout the whole weekend. We will not only be discussing ideas, but a strategy to fight back against the relentless attacks of the pro-austerity capitalist politicians, the representatives of the banks and big business.
Alternative
Above all else we will be talking about a socialist alternative. The potential to transform our society into one where the tremendous wealth in the world is democratically planned for the benefit of all. A society where the world's abundant natural resources are conserved and husbanded for the benefit of future generations.
The Socialist Party has no rich backers. We depend on contributions and support from ordinary, working class people - and an event of this scale costs a lot of money! Can you give £5, £50 or £500? We can guarantee that every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. And all of it will go to building support for socialist ideas.
You can donate at the rally, or any time over the weekend at the finance stall. Alternatively, pay via our website www.socialistparty.org.uk , by telephone on 020 8988 8777 or send a cheque (payable to "Socialist Party") to PO Box 24697, London E11 1YD.
"I did my bit to raise the profile of the Socialist Party by running the Leicester Marathon on 26 October. I sold 40 copies of the Socialist newspaper and raised over £40 for our fighting fund as I went round the course."

Finance appeal
The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.
The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.
The government has now ripped up its 'austerity' mantra and turned to policies that not long ago were denounced as socialist. But after the corona crisis, it will try to make the working class pay for it, by trying to claw back what has been given.
- The Socialist Party's material is more vital than ever, so we can continue to report from workers who are fighting for better health and safety measures, against layoffs, for adequate staffing levels, etc.
- When the health crisis subsides, we must be ready for the stormy events ahead and the need to arm workers' movements with a socialist programme - one which puts the health and needs of humanity before the profits of a few.
Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.
We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to click here to donate to our Fighting Fund.
