London rally to call for international movement against the right after Brazilian election result

A Socialist Party press release
On Saturday 10 November 1,000 socialists from around the country plus international guests will gather in London for a 'Fight the Right' rally.
The event will have added impetus following the election of the far-right Bolsonaro in Brazil. The Socialist Party's Brazilian sister party will send a solidarity video to be played at the rally.
Tony Saunois (secretary of the international organisation - the CWI - that the Socialist Party is part of) will speak at a workshop on Sunday 11 November discussing current events in Latin America in particular.

Tony said:

"Bolsonaro's election shows the danger of reactionary forces gaining a foothold in Latin America at the moment. But that's only one side of the story. In every country there is a resistance by working class and poor people. Where the right currently has the upper hand it is largely because of a failure of left parties to show a lead to win the confidence of the masses or, when they have been in power, to break with capitalism. That has important lessons for socialists and activists around the world."

Finance appeal

The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.

The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.

The government has now ripped up its 'austerity' mantra and turned to policies that not long ago were denounced as socialist. But after the corona crisis, it will try to make the working class pay for it, by trying to claw back what has been given.

Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.

We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to click here to donate to our Fighting Fund.
