Nuclear scrap

Labour and the Tories have been at loggerheads over who can beat a patriotic war drum loudest regarding a replacement to the trident submarine ‘nuclear deterrent’ system.

Both parties are committed to ‘upgrading’ Trident with four new nuclear armed submarines costing a staggering £100 billion. Currently Trident is costing £3 billion a year.

In a meaningless gesture the Lib Dems have pledged to build three rather than four submarines.

It’s estimated that scrapping Trident and its replacement would save enough to pay for 150,000 nurses or abolishing university tuition fees for the next 30 years!
