Socialism 2007

Don't miss out!

There is now less than a month to go until Socialism 2007, so if you haven't booked your ticket yet then go to www.socialism2007.net and make sure you don't miss out.

Greg Maughan, Socialism coordinator

Socialism 2007 offers an unmissable opportunity for workers and young people from across Britain to come together and exchange experiences and ideas about fighting back against the bosses' offensive.

The commissions and closing rally on the history of the trade union movement and building the shop stewards' movement today will give trade union activists the chance to discuss the ideas and lessons from the traditions of workers' struggle in Britain, whilst preparing themselves for the battles that loom now on pay, conditions and, crucially, the struggle for a political voice for working-class people.

The commissions on Marxist philosophy are a chance to discuss the ideological tools that form the basis of the Socialist Party's work. As Leon Trotsky put it: "If the theory correctly estimates the course of development and foresees the future better than other theories, it remains the most advanced theory of our time."

Sessions on current political developments will offer a chance to put these tools into practice and discuss the way forward in the fight against the ravages of global capitalism.

Debates during the weekend will be an important opportunity for exchanging views, with the Socialist Party's analysis being contrasted to that of other political organisations.

Central to Socialism 2007 will be commissions on the 1917 Russian revolution and the lessons from it for our struggles today.

Make sure you do not miss out, by booking your ticket today, then tell your friends, family, workmates and fellow campaigners about it and get them along too.

If you want a supply of leaflets and posters to promote the weekend contact us on 020 8988 8768 or at [email protected]

Three extra sessions have been added to the Socialism 2007 agenda by popular demand.

They are:

The bubbles deflate - perspectives for the world economy introduced by Peter Taaffe, Socialist Party general secretary

Burma: How can the dictatorship be defeated? introduced by Clare Doyle, Committee for a Workers International

and:

Can Labour be 'reclaimed'? a debate between Clive Heemskerk, Socialist Party executive committee and a Labour Representation Committee representative.

Finance appeal

The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.

The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.

The government has now ripped up its 'austerity' mantra and turned to policies that not long ago were denounced as socialist. But after the corona crisis, it will try to make the working class pay for it, by trying to claw back what has been given.

Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.

We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to click here to donate to our Fighting Fund.
