Pride march through city of York for the first time

Previously York Pride has never marched through the city of York, this year was different. People gathered outside the cathedral which had previously been home to a protest against Archbishop Sentamu’s comments regarding gay marriage.

The battle is still on to see marriage equality for all couples. This is highlighted by the divide within the church.

The march went through the centre of town and ended in an event on the Knaves Mire racecourse. York Socialist Party participated from the start, gathering huge support for a petition calling for marriage equality for all.

We argued the need to fight all cuts, including those affecting the LGBTQ community, and the case for socialism.
