Socialism 2013 appeal: Fund the international fightback!

Ken Douglas, Socialist Party national treasurer

The Socialist Party is asking all its members and supporters to donate to the Socialism 2013 Appeal.

Your financial support is crucial to maintain the Socialist Party’s campaigning on the two great questions facing the working class: the need for a 24-hour general strike to bring together all workers under attack from the Con-Dems; and for a new mass workers’ party that can put forward a political alternative to austerity.

The successful National Shop Stewards Network (NSSN) lobby and rally at the TUC congress showed that this annual event has become an established platform for the left trade union leaders.

The Socialist Party plays a signifcant role with others in ensuring that the demand for a 24-hour general strike against the cuts has been taken up by the TUC and is being raised throughout the trade union movement.

The Socialist Party, alongside the RMT rail union, has been the driving force behind the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) which is now preparing to stand a record number of candidates in the 2014 council elections.

Internationally, we have seen the unprecedented success of Socialist Alternative, US supporters of the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI), in the ground-breaking election campaigns of Kshama Sawant in Seattle, Ty Moore in Minneapolis and Seamus Whelan in Boston.

They are not only challenging the pro-big business candidates of the party machines in those cities, but are doing so by boldly putting forward a socialist alternative.

In South Africa, DSM has helped launch Wasp and shaken the pro-capitalist ANC establishment.

A proportion of the money we raise at Socialism 2013 will go to the CWI special appeal to assist the often difficult and pioneering work that our members internationally are engaged in.

Comrades in Tunisia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, South Africa and elsewhere daily risk imprisonment or worse.

Their work would not be possible without the great financial sacrifices made by CWI supporters internationally.

By making a donation to the Socialism 2013 appeal you can help the work of the Socialist Party and the CWI.

Can you give £5, £50 or £500? Can you ask other members and supporters to donate? Every donation, no matter what size, will make a difference and all of it will go to building support for socialist ideas.
